Hyderabad Metro Rail is one of India's most modern and efficiently run metro systems. Opened on 28 November 2017, it operates 57 stations across 3 lines and 69.2 km of elevated track — making it the world's largest Public-Private Partnership (PPP) metro project by track length.
The metro is developed, built, and operated by L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (L&TMRHL) under a 35-year concession from the Government of Telangana through HMRL (Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited). This PPP model has delivered a high-quality metro with efficient operations at competitive fares.
Hyderabad Metro covers the city's major corridors: the Blue Line (L1) connects Miyapur in the west to LB Nagar in the south-east; the Red Line (L2) runs from Jubilee Bus Station to MGBS; and the Green Line (L3) runs from NAGOLE to Raidurgam, passing through HITEC City — the heart of Hyderabad's IT and startup ecosystem (which includes major offices of Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Facebook, and hundreds of tech companies).
The fare is distance-based with a maximum of ₹60 for any single journey. The Metro Smart Card gives a 10% discount on all trips and is the recommended payment method for frequent users. Tokens (single-trip) are purchased at station vending machines.
Hyderabad has one of the most vibrant tech ecosystems in India, and the metro connects all major IT corridors: HITEC City, Cyberabad, and Gachibowli. The metro also serves Charminar (through connections), Secunderabad Railway Station, and the major Hyderabad road Junction — MGBS.

How do I get from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to Hyderabad by metro?
The metro does not currently reach RGIA (Shamshabad Airport). Take the Airport Express bus (₹250–₹350) to Mehdipatnam or Secunderabad, then connect to the metro. A cab/Ola/Uber from RGIA to the metro-served areas costs ₹600–₹1,200.
How do I reach Charminar by metro?
The metro does not directly serve Charminar as of 2026. The nearest metro station is MGBS (Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station) on the Red Line — from there take a bus or auto-rickshaw (about 3 km) to Charminar. The metro extension to reach Charminar is in planning.
What is the maximum fare on Hyderabad Metro?
