Every weekday morning, tens of thousands of people ride Hyderabad Metro into HITEC City, Madhapur and the Financial District. The metro is usually the most predictable way to get there, but the experience depends a lot on your route, your timing and how you pay. Here is a practical guide for commuters.
The line you need: the Blue Line
HITEC City and Raidurg are on the Blue Line, which runs from Nagole in the east through Uppal, Secunderabad, Ameerpet, Jubilee Hills and Madhapur to HITEC City and Raidurg. Raidurg is the terminus, closest to Knowledge City and the Mindspace area. HITEC City station is one stop before it.
If you live on the Blue Line, you have a direct ride. If you live on the Red Line (Miyapur to LB Nagar), you change at Ameerpet, the network's busiest interchange.
Best routes from each part of the city
| Starting from | Route | Change at |
|---|---|---|
| Miyapur, Kukatpally, KPHB | Red Line to Ameerpet, then Blue Line towards Raidurg | Ameerpet |
| LB Nagar, Dilsukhnagar, Malakpet | Red Line to Ameerpet, then Blue Line towards Raidurg | Ameerpet |
| Uppal, Nagole, Habsiguda | Blue Line direct to HITEC City or Raidurg | None |
| Secunderabad, Paradise, Begumpet | Blue Line direct to HITEC City or Raidurg | None |
| Old City, MGBS area | Red Line to Ameerpet, then Blue Line | Ameerpet |
| JBS, Musheerabad, RTC X Roads | Green Line to Parade Ground, then Blue Line | Parade Ground |
From Ameerpet to HITEC City is eight stops, around 15 to 20 minutes.
Surviving the Ameerpet interchange
Ameerpet is where the Red and Blue lines cross, and at rush hour it can feel like half the city is changing trains there. A few habits make it easier:
- Know the rush hours. Roughly 8:30 to 10:30 in the morning and 17:30 to 20:00 in the evening. Leaving 20 minutes earlier can make a big difference.
- Walk to the ends of the platform. The coaches nearest the stairs and escalators fill up first. The far ends are usually less crowded.
- Let a packed train go. At peak times trains come every few minutes. Waiting for the next one is often faster than squeezing onto a full train.
- Keep your card or QR ticket ready. You do not need to tap out when changing lines, but have it ready for the exit gate at HITEC City, where queues build up.
The last mile
HITEC City and Raidurg stations are close to many offices, but not all of them. For the last stretch:
- Company shuttles wait outside the stations for many of the larger campuses. Ask your admin team for the pick-up point.
- Autos and bike taxis queue outside both stations and are the quickest option for short hops to Madhapur and Mindspace.
- Walking works for offices within about a kilometre, though the heat and traffic crossings can make it less pleasant in summer.
How much the Smart Card saves
The Hyderabad Metro Smart Card takes 10% off every fare. For a commute that costs ₹50 each way, that is ₹5 per trip, or about ₹220 a month for 22 working days. Over a year, that is more than ₹2,500, for a card you buy once.
The card also saves time: no queue at the token counter, which at HITEC City in the evening can be long. Recharge it online so you never have to stop at the machine.
For a visitor or someone who rides once a week, a QR ticket bought on the phone is simpler and avoids the card fee.
Timings to plan around
Trains run from about 6:00 to about 23:00, with the first trains a little later on some Sundays and holidays. If you work late, check the last train from HITEC City towards your home before you rely on it. If you miss it, app cabs and autos run all night.
Quick checklist for new commuters
- Find your nearest station and check which line it is on.
- Plan your change: Ameerpet from the Red Line, Parade Ground from the Green Line.
- Get a Smart Card if you will commute three or more days a week.
- Try travelling 20 minutes earlier for a week and compare.
- Sort out your last-mile option before your first day, not at the station exit.
