Pune Metro is the rapid transit system serving Maharashtra's second-largest city — also known as the "Oxford of the East" for its many universities and educational institutions. Commercial operations began on 6 March 2022, and the network is rapidly expanding with Phase 1 and Phase 2 corridors.
The metro is operated by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro), a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra. Two lines are operational: Line 1 (Purple Line, PCMC to Swargate) and Line 3 (Aqua Line, Vanaz to Ramwadi).
Pune is home to a large IT and manufacturing ecosystem, with major campuses of Infosys, Wipro, TCS, and other tech companies. The metro serves key corridors including Hinjewadi IT Park (via upcoming Phase 2), Shivajinagar, Koregaon Park, and Deccan Gymkhana — areas frequented by both residents and visitors.
The metro connects Pune Railway Station (Shivajinagar line) for onward rail travel to Mumbai and other cities. Hinjewadi, Pune's largest IT park, will be connected by Phase 2 of Line 1 (currently being constructed).
Fares are distance-based and among the lowest in India for a new-generation metro.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Pune Metro go to Hinjewadi IT Park?
Not yet — the Phase 2 extension of Line 1 to Hinjewadi IT Park (via Baner and Balewadi) is under construction. Once open, it will directly connect Pune's largest IT hub to the city centre. Currently, buses and cabs are the only option for Hinjewadi.
Does Pune Metro connect to Pune Railway Station?
Shivajinagar metro station is the closest to Pune Railway Station — about 1.5 km walk or a short auto ride. The proposed Phase 2 includes a station closer to the main railway station.
What time does Pune Metro run?
Approximately 06:00 to 22:00 daily. Last trains depart end stations around 21:30. PMPML (Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal) buses cover the city at other hours.
Does the metro go to Koregaon Park?
Koregaon Park (Pune's most vibrant restaurant and cafe zone) is closest to the Ramwadi station area on the Aqua Line. A short auto ride from Ramwadi or Kalyani Nagar station reaches Koregaon Park.
Is Pune Metro useful for visitors?
For getting around central Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, yes. For areas like Hinjewadi, Kharadi, Viman Nagar (near the airport), or Baner in full, you'll still need autos or cabs. The network is expanding rapidly.
