The Mumbai Metro is the fastest and most affordable way to get around Mumbai. The network covers 97 stations across 6 lines and ~80 km of track, connecting the city's key neighbourhoods, transport hubs, and attractions. Around ~600,000 journeys are made every day.
The Mumbai Metro is changing how people move around one of the world's most crowded cities. The first line, Line 1 from Versova to Ghatkopar via Andheri, opened in June 2014. Lines 2A and 7 in the western suburbs followed in 2022 and 2023, and the underground Line 3 (Aqua Line) opened in stages from 2024 to 2025.

Getting from the Airport to Mumbai
Metro Line 3 has stations at both terminals of Mumbai airport. Reach BKC in about 15 minutes and CSMT in South Mumbai in about 35 to 40 minutes, avoiding road traffic. Journey time: ~10–15 min to BKC / ~35–40 min to CSMT. Estimated fare: About ₹20–₹60 depending on distance.

- Baggage X-ray at every station: all bags are scanned at the security checkpoint before entry. Allow 2–3 extra minutes at busy stations.
- Women-only coaches: the first coach of every train is reserved for women. Clearly marked. Male passengers should use other coaches.
- Peak hours are very crowded: avoid 08:00–10:00 and 17:00–20:00 on weekdays if you can. Trains run reliably but are packed during rush hours.
- Consider a Smart Card: if you will ride several times a day, the discount and time saved soon cover the card cost. For a short visit, QR tickets on your phone are often simpler.
