Getting from the Airport to Kochi
Kochi Metro's nearest station to Cochin Airport is Aluva — take a taxi/auto from the airport (8 km) and connect to the Blue Line. Journey time: ~20 min taxi to Aluva metro, then 35 min metro to MG Road. Estimated fare: ₹200–₹300 taxi to Aluva + ₹40–₹50 metro fare.

- Baggage X-ray at every station — all bags are scanned at the security checkpoint before entry. Allow 2–3 extra minutes at busy stations.
- Women-only coaches — the first coach of every train is reserved for women. Clearly marked. Male passengers should use other coaches.
- Peak hours are very crowded — avoid 08:00–10:00 and 17:00–20:00 on weekdays if you can. Trains run reliably but are packed during rush hours.
- Smart Card is essential — buy it on your first visit. The discount and time saving pay back the deposit within a day of travel. Available at any station customer care centre.
- Download the operator app — fare calculators, UPI ticketing, and route planners are available from Kochi Metro Rail Limited.
- Operating hours — the metro runs approximately 06:00 to 22:00–23:00. Always check the last train time if travelling late.

What is the Water Metro?
Kochi Water Metro is a network of electric ferries connecting Kochi city to islands and other shoreside communities across the backwaters. Operated by KMRL using the same Kochi1 card. The ferry terminals are near metro stations, creating a seamless water-plus-metro experience unique to Kochi.
Does the Kochi Metro reach Cochin International Airport?
Not directly — Cochin International Airport (COK) is about 25 km from the city and is not on the current metro line. Aluva station (northern terminus) is the nearest metro point, from where taxis/buses serve the airport (about 8 km). The metro extension to the airport has been proposed.

How do I use the Water Metro with the metro?
At Vyttila, Ernakulam South, and other waterfront stations, walk to the KMRL Water Metro terminal. Tap your Kochi1 card on the ferry turnstile as well — the same card covers both. Ferries run every 15–30 minutes to various island and shoreside destinations.
