Namma Metro Yellow Line Guide: Stations, Electronic City Commute and Tips

The Yellow Line is the newest line on Bengaluru's Namma Metro. It opened in August 2025 and, for the first time, gives the southern IT belt around Electronic City a direct rail link to the rest of the city. If you work in Electronic City, live along Hosur Road, or have ever sat in traffic at Central Silk Board, this line matters to you.

How to reach the Yellow Line from the rest of the city

Today the only interchange is RV Road, where the Yellow Line meets the Green Line. That makes the Green Line your feeder:

  • From Majestic: take the Green Line south towards Silk Institute, get off at RV Road and change to the Yellow Line.
  • From MG Road, Indiranagar or Whitefield: take the Purple Line to Majestic, change to the Green Line, then change again at RV Road.
  • From Yeshwanthpur or north Bengaluru: stay on the Green Line all the way south to RV Road.

At RV Road you do not need to tap out. Follow the signs to the Yellow Line platforms.

Fares on the Yellow Line

Fares follow the standard Namma Metro distance chart revised in February 2025, from ₹10 for the shortest trips up to about ₹70 for the full RV Road to Bommasandra run. Trips that start on the Green or Purple line and continue onto the Yellow Line are charged as a single journey by total distance, so a longer trip from Majestic or MG Road can reach the ₹80 to ₹90 range.

A Namma Metro Smart Card takes 5% off every trip, with an extra 5% in weekday off-peak hours and 10% all day on Sundays and national holidays. For a daily Electronic City commute, that saving adds up to a few hundred rupees a month.

Tips for Electronic City commuters

  • Check the frequency. The Yellow Line opened with a small fleet, so trains ran less often than on the Purple and Green lines. Frequency improves as new trains arrive, but it is still worth checking the timetable in the Namma Metro app so you do not wait on the platform.
  • Pick your station carefully. Electronic City, Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara, Huskur Road and Hebbagodi all serve different parts of the tech parks. Look at your office location on a map before your first trip.
  • Use feeder transport for the last stretch. Company shuttles, BMTC feeder buses, autos and bike taxis wait outside the main stations.
  • Beat the Silk Board jam. The biggest win is at Central Silk Board, one of the most congested junctions in India. The train passes overhead in a couple of minutes.
  • Travel off-peak if you can. Shifting your commute to before 8:00 gives Smart Card users an extra discount and a far emptier train.

What is coming next

The Yellow Line is set to become much more useful as other lines open. At Jayadeva Hospital it will meet the Pink Line, and at Central Silk Board it will meet the Blue Line, which will run via KR Puram to the airport. Once both are open, riders from the Yellow Line will be able to reach the airport and north Bengaluru without going through Majestic.

Always verify schedules and fares with the official operator before travelling.
